Larchmont United FC vs Old Boys
OLD BOYS DEFEEAT LARCHMONT UNITED
Nick Higgins scored the opener in the ~10th minute when he and Nico Espiritu had a breakaway on goal. Nico drew the keeper out of goal with his dribbling and then unselfishly squared a perfectly timed pass to his strike partner, giving the ’Savvy Scottsman’ an open net to shoot on from the 6 yard-line. The next goal came from Armen Manssourian‘s scrappy heal flick which he converted from a Nico Espíritu corner kick that went into the into the “mixer” before squirting over to Armen who was well positioned at the far post.
Anselm Clinard made a couple fine saves in goal before Larchmont United pulled one goal back as Atletico’s defense failed to close on a shot from the edge of the penalty that ricocheted off the post and perhaps narrowly crossed the goal-line before being caught by the the in-form keeper. Then, in the earlier stages of the second half second half, Larchmont United scored another goal against the run of play. This one was off a poorly covered corner (which is an issue that that Old Boys are contending with). Zach Reiter almost cleared the opposing header off the line, but nonetheless it was a level affair with a half hour remaining.
But the Old Boys superior talent took control from that moment forward and proceeded to pour in 4 goals. Matt Diffy scorched a wicked-low shot just inside the post from distance. Shai Asarkaya did the same. Armen Manssourian scored another scrappy goal in the box. And Daniel Davila scored off a very well taken penalty shot at the death.
The whole team played well and played collectively for the 4th straight match. Zach Reiter was simply dominant at right back. He and Daniel Mildner won countless challenges. Anselm Clinard saved and controlled every shot that he possibly could have. Scott Johnson and Michael Costanza played through their respective knee injuries in the center of the park. And Armen Manssourian provided boundless positive energy as always, especially on goal celebrations.
Kevin Young may have been missed on the field but not at the bar afterwards as the lads enjoyed some reprieve from the dystopian political nightmare that was weighing more heavily upon the team before the match.
